There was a commercial on TV when I was younger. It was for some kind of instant pudding. In this commercial, there was a mom riding on a giant egg beater (the old hand-turned kind), hovering above the ground and over a pond where children were happily playing and swimming. We knew she was a mom because she was wearing an apron and had a certain hairstyle. She was gaily singing, "I'm somebody's, I'm somebody's, I'm somebody's mom!" and magically, all the children received bowls of delicious instant pudding.
Well, I am not somebody's mom, but I am somebody's dad. One may wonder what somebody's mom was doing on her egg beater out where the children were playing, and one may also wonder why somebody's dad is here on DeviantArt where children are also playing. Perhaps I come bearing bowls of delicious pudding.
Actually, I am here to encourage my kids' art work, (which I already do by having bought them computers, peripherals, and lots of software, and allowing them to spend hours and hours glued to the computer when there are so many valuable things they could be doing) and social interaction out here on the web. It gives me a sense of pride to see them sharpening their skills, finding their way, and making a mark in the world in this way.
I am also here to represent a standard of wit, intelligence, and decency that I hope my kids will aspire to. Just by showing up, I know that kids will think, oh no, it's my dad, and he is not bringing pudding. Never mind that! Just believe and trust that I encourage all the good things you're doing (even though I wish you'd spend more time reading or being active).
